What is the British National Bibliography ?
The British National Bibliography (BNB) lists the books and new journal titles published or distributed in the United Kingdom and Ireland since 1950. It also lists forthcoming book titles and hand-held electronic publications e.g. CD-ROMs, deposited with the Legal Deposit Office since 2003.

Most of the items listed in the BNB are received by the British Library via legal deposit and may be consulted in the reading rooms in London. However, the facility required to order these items is not included on these pages.

Welcome to the new British National Bibliography search service; the latest version of one of the world's most authoritative and longest established national bibliographic resources. Since the BNB includes forthcoming publications not yet received by the British Library we have created a customised interface to allow users to distinguish more easily between BNB items and those actually held in the British Library's collections. These pages therefore replace the BNB search option formerly available via the British Library's online catalogue and are specifically designed for users seeking UK publications recorded in the national bibliography since 1950.
